It’s a Hot Coho Season!

This has been a banner Coho season off the Oregon Coast. The fish have been robust and actively feeding near the surface for most of the season. This ideal scenario perfectly complements our fly fishing techniques, even allowing us to cast and retrieve small baitfish patterns, which has led to aggressive strikes from these “Silver bullets.”

It’s currently the middle of August, and we have one week remaining of the selective Coho season before a week-long closure. The season will resume on September 1st and is expected to offer excellent fishing until I conclude my season on September 16th. These fish are voracious eaters this time of year, striving to bulk up before their return to the rivers to spawn and contribute to the next generation. It’s not too late to get out on the Dory, if you haven’t yet experienced Coho fishing in the salt, you’re truly missing out.
